Brixham

Brixham is a small fishing town in the district of Torbay in the county of Devon, in the south-west of England. Brixham is at the southern end of Torbay with a thriving cafe culture and eclectic mix of seafood restaurants, bistro’s, traditional pubs and trendy bars that centre around the busy harbour. 

 

The town’s cobbled streets, the colourful cottages and spectacular coastal scenery have made it a firm favourite with visitors to South Devon. Brixham forms the third part of Torbay - the others being Torquay and Paignton. The bay is known as the English Riviera due to its unique micro-climate.

Brixham, aptly named Fishtown, has grown into the biggest fishing port in England. There is so much to explore and do for all ages. Whether it’s a romantic retreat, family holiday or you just want a relaxing break, Brixham just oozes character and charm.

With the famous picturesque traditional fishing harbour, the marina, walks to the stunning Berry Head, Fishcombe Cove and beyond. It’s the perfect place to try crabbing, go for a swim in the outdoor lido, it is a seawater pool at Shoalstone.

The Visit Brixham website has a great calendar of events. Some recommendations of ours are below, we would love to hear your own recommendations!

  • Pick up the South West coast path and walk your way around to the stunning Berry Head National Nature Reserve, stop at the Berry Head Hotel.

  • Walk round to Fishcombe Bay and stop at Fishcombe Cove Cafe for lunch with a view.

  • Head out on the foot ferry to Torquay, take an evening fishing trip from the harbour or set sail on your own skippered yacht to enjoy a day on the open ocean for some great photo opportunities. Not forgetting theatres to take in an evening show.

  • The area is dotted with beaches including Churston and Fishcombe coves, the Breakwater Beach and St Mary’s Bay.

  • If an active holiday is more your style then there are plenty of things to keep you busy ranging from golf, walking and cycling.

  • The neighbouring town of Paignton, just 5 miles away, offers a variety of popular family attractions including Paignton Zoo, Dartmouth Steam Railway and Quaywest Waterpark (summer season only). Here you can relax on the sandy beaches, take a stroll along the esplanade and out onto Paignton Pier.

  • A further 3 miles on is the cosmopolitan town of Torquay playing host to an array of attractions, activities and entertainment. Get up close and personal with the penguins at Living Coasts or explore the caves at Kents Cavern.

  • Other attractions within easy reach include Plymouth and Exeter.

Don’t forget one of the most important things to do whilst in Brixham is to relax on one of our patios, you can admire the view from the top deck patio. It’s just perfect for alfresco dining and enjoying the odd glass or two.

You will never be bored in Brixham many visitors don’t use their car during their stay! The English Riveria offers something for everyone 365 days a year.

There simply is no place like Brixham it's an amazing holiday destination.

Eat and Drink:

A few recommendations of ours are below, we would love to hear about anywhere else you have tried! There is plenty of choice in Brixham.

  • The Cow Shed is a grill with a fabulous variety of food.

  • The Prince William offers an amazing carvery and serves pizzas, burgers and of course, fish and chips!

  • Albero Mediterranean serving locally sourced food, fish, pizza, tapas and brunch. It's a very popular choice with our guests.

  • Rockfish Seafood Restaurant is located right on the harbour, it is fabulous for tasting the catch of the day. 

  • The Buellers Arms is a great British pub serving traditional bar meals.

  • Beamers offers a full English menu with great local meats, homemade vegetarian dishes, yummy desserts and of course seafood is their specialty. Beamers appears a lot on the Sky TV show Fish Town.

  • The Balti House is a delicious Indian restaurant/takeaway on the high street.

  • Guard House cafe at Berry Head Nature Reserve, serve some delicious treats and snacks.

  • Breakwater Bistro has possibly the best views in Brixham for dinner, great food too!
